IBSHelp.org.uk is constituted on a 'not-for-profit' basis
as an Unincorporated Association
(pdf)
and is a part of
Solent-Hypnotherapy.co.uk.
IBS is a life restricting, very unpleasant, syndrome to suffer
from. It affects almost every single area of life for
the individual through fear of incontinence etc. Many
sufferers also develop depression and social phobic
problems or other anxiety based issues as well as
suffering the cramps, pain, bloating and altered bowel
habit.
Testing in IBS was historically based on the exclusion
of other potential causes of the symptoms and by
colonoscopy. However diagnosis has moved from Secondary
Care (Hospitals) to Primary Care (General Practitioners)
in the UK and is according to the NICE Guidelines of
positive symptoms according to the Rome II Criteria with
blood tests where necessary; thus the required medical
diagnosis.
The purpose of this website [Terms
and Conditions (pdf)] is to provide information to the
diagnosed IBS sufferer about the very effective
treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome through
hypnotherapy; and further to provide details of highly
trained, ethical, hypnotherapists in your area.
Hypnotherapy being an extremely effective tool in the
treatment of IBS might sound rather odd - 'listening to
someone and it makes it all go away' - well it is a bit
more complex than that appears, it is all about the
Parasympathetic Nervous System, and metaphors about
streams...but please read on and enjoy a voyage of
discovery!
We have also (April 2010, International IBS Awareness
Month) launched, in partnership with the College of
Integrated Therapies, a distance learning programme the
is GHR (General Hypnotherapy Register) validated CPD for
a Certificate in the Treatment of IBS Through Gut
Orientated Metaphor. Successful completion and
certification will also enable GHR Registrants to join
its 'IBS Specialist Register'; more details available
here
Many thanks
